A bit of perspective, please, as ‘that joke’ is cranked out

26 Mar

What can you say? Well played Rotherham United as Brentford slipped to their second defeat in only twenty five League games. Meanwhile, a good win for Wolves (eventually – it looked squeaky for a while as their insurmountable lead was reigned in) and a massive present from Oldham at Leyton Orient see things remain ‘as they were’ at the top of the table.

The only real difference being that Wolves have the title back in their control, for this week at least, as Brentford are now four points off the summit, albeit with a game in hand. And we are still two games and three points clear of third placed Leyton Orient who, intriguingly, now have Rotherham breathing right down their necks.

To read the rest of this article, season 2013/14 is now available to download onto Kindle, in full. Containing previously unseen content, you can do so here for less than the cost of one matchday programme.

Thanks for reading over the course of the campaign. For now I need to make space on this page for any follow up.  The ‘close season’ / World Cup columns continue in full, further on in this site.

Keep the faith guys – you will be fine and you are spot on to call for some proper perspective.

Rotherham are a fine side who play intelligent and cutting football. We were very fortunate to come away with the points when we went up there earlier in the season when Nouha Dicko scored twice for them (he’s firing for us now, I’m pleased to say)

Forget the title and focus on the gap between you and third. This is precisely the way I view things from a Wolves perspective. The title would be the cherry on the proverbial but the real prize is promotion. In fact, as delighted as I was that both our nearest rivals dropped points last night I would have been even happier if you had drawn and Orient had lost. You aren’t the threat to our ambition – Orient are.

As you correctly state, there will be plenty more twists in these final 8-9 games and especially with the games coming so fast furious.

Keep the faith – stay strong on the terrace and trust in your boys to see you over the line. There is nothing more we fans can do. Hope to see you in the Championship.

Anglian Wolf – I thought we only got one point at Rotherham (3 – 3). All my kids were talking about on the journey home was “why didn’t we keep Dicko”
Talking of Dicko – what a nice bloke. He signed my youngest’s shirt for him last night (even after he’d called him Sako by mistake) and made quite a fuss of him and all the young fans that were there.

Thanks as ever – sound sentiments. I still believe it will be the pair of us up there next season. But I’ll be a much happier man once it is confirmed….

Mathematically Wolves and Brentford are guaranteed at least a play off place. Wolves need 15 points from 8 games to be assured of automatic promotion, Brentford need 19 from 9. Nick – can you really see Brentford losing three games in the next 9? Or Orient winning every remaining one? I can’t.
On a more important note, I don’t seem to be able to get Absolute radio. Is it a DAB station? If they play Status Quo I need to know about it.

I’d agree the stats do look very good in both our favour. Equally ,though, we both have games coming up against teams that have got everything to play for.
I still believe it’ll be Bees and Wolves but the run in may not be as easy as our respective positions suggest.
As for the radio – 1215am 105.8 FM and DAB. Give it a crack. No finer way to start the day with a bit of Quo
