Is this the bargain of the season? On and off the pitch.

3 Apr

Tuesday night saw Brentford pick up another point, at Sheffield United, to move five clear of third placed Leyton Orient (still with a game in hand). And with Wolves also being held at Stevenage, the top of the table remains very much within our sights.

For me one of the, off-field, highlights of the season has been the rapid availability of post match highlights on our You Tube channel. Not only are they free, but (on the main site) they are of much better pictorial quality than those on Beesplayer.

That’s not to ‘rubbish’ the ‘player’ service – they have much more on there than just match highlights, as we all know and love. However, for those wanting a bite size hit of Bees action then YouTube is the place to go.

To read the rest of this article, season 2013/14 is now available to download onto Kindle, in full. Containing previously unseen content, you can do so here for less than the cost of one matchday programme.

Thanks for reading over the course of the campaign. For now I need to make space on this page for any follow up.  The ‘close season’ / World Cup columns continue in full, further on in this site.

Things have taken a turn for the worse for both Brentford and Wolves. Warburton and Jackett have both been nominated for the monthly poisoned chalice known as manager of the month. I would have no problems with Kenny winning it for April but for both our teams sakes, let Rotherham or Bristol City take the hit for March.
Incidentally it was another lack lustre performance from Wolves at Stevenage on Tuesday night. I hope possible promotion isn’t starting to affect players minds. Having said that Stevenage spent most of the match playing the 10 formation which we just couldn’t break down. The game against Peterborough on Saturday is going to be huge.

Thanks. Appreciate the insight, as ever.
Hate to say it but I’ve backed Wolves in the office competition.
So that’s the kiss of death for one of us.
However form has gone (and barring MOTM jinxes) this is now down to Wolves and Brentford to throw away.
Keep doing what we’ve been doing and not even Rotherham will catch us.
So there’s just the small matter of keeping on doing what we’ve been doing……

I have enjoyed your blogs this season even as a Wolves fan – let’s hope we both go up in memory of the finest player I saw in the Old Gold and Black, Peter Broadbent.

      Cheers Nick.
Appreciate the comment and sincerely hope that the two best teams in League One will meet again in next season’s Championship.
Still can’t believe the form we’ve both set yet it still remains open

Agree with your comments on the Player service. For £40ish pounds a year you would expect high quality footage on the site. I know thats not Chris or Mark’s fault, thats what they have got to work with, and im sure its pretty frustrating for them, but the deregulation to YouTube sites was an odd move by the FL particularly considering their partnership with the premium website people and Sky.

      Thanks Bernard.
I don’t blame anyone at BFC for the quality of ‘player’ footage. I’m sure it is outside of their hands and they have no means to influence ‘Perform’ about what we show on our website.

Besides, the other features such as excellent comms are great for the fans.

However, given the fact that we are unable to provide consistent high quality video then I think the YouTube alternative is a palatable, and popular, alternative.

Personally, my primary use of Beesplayer is for comms. If the highlights are available for free, and in better quality, elsewhere then so be it. I’ll watch on YouTube but as long as we have great commentary, I’ll stick with Beesplayer.
So…no pressure, Messrs Burridge, Melville and Reeves…..
