The talk on everybody’s lips these last few days has been the prospect of Jota leaving Brentford for, of all places, Fulham. Unthinkable in the eyes of many. The ultimate smack in the face to others. Or just good business for a player whose contract is fast expiring? Then, yesterday, radio silence. Indeed, all the talk was about Harlee Dean. His apparent medical at Birmingham City with a £2million fee having been agreed. So what to believe as the transfer window creaks closer to that ‘slam shut’ ™ ?
And if you’d like to read more whilst helping the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust …. the rest of this article can now be found in the Kindle e-book Ten Times Better. Brentford FC Season review: 2017/18. Inspired by ‘that’ interview it contains the least bad of these columns in one, handy volume as it looks at our own campaign as well as wider divisional life and the promotion / relegation races.
As a bonus there’s a whole host of new material. New that is, for my pages. Specifically, all the programme articles submitted (both home and away where, if nothing else, you can get the original versions of both Birmingham City and Millwall).
In addition, There Is No Plan B. Brentford FC Season reviews: 2013/14 – 2017/18 takes us all the way back to the start of this latest leg in the journey. That penalty. League One. Harlee Dean was a hero. Jota was something we thought happened to the temperature for one week in July. Alan Judge had joined on loan whilst the Marinus Experiment was something nobody had contemplated. Bringing things bang up to date by the inclusion of this year’s volume alongside the four previously published campaign round ups, it has five seasons in one weighty tome. As weighty as a download can be, that is.
Relive the memories. See how often the same material gets regurgitated. Remind yourself about the likes of Betinho, Martin Fillo, Javi Venta and Marcos Tebar. Certainly, if there’s no Marcos Tea Bar at Lionel Road it will be an opportunity missed.
All proceeds from any sales will go to the Community Sports Trust. For less than the cost of a half / pint respectively, they may help while away some time on the commute. By the pool on holiday. In the bathroom. Who knows? It will certainly do some good for the Trust, whose work has been well documented at Griffin Park but you can read all about it on their site.
And if that wasn’t enough, I’ve been given something very special. A 2017/18 third team shirt with Lewis Macleod’s squad number on the reverse in the EFL typeface. Anyone with half an interest in Bees kits will know that these were never made available in the club shop. Anyone who has read any of this before will know what a kit nerd yours truly is so when I say this is rare, take that in good faith!
To be in with a chance of owning it, download a copy of either before the end of June 2018 and you’ll go into a draw to win this. Just DM/tweet me (@NickBruzon) a copy of your purchase confirmation mail and I’ll add your name to the list before selecting a random Bees fan to win this on July 1st.

Harlee – heart on his sleeve. As ever

Jota. Look away Brentford fans. It might get ugly

I would be ruddy heartbroken if Jota did this. I told him I loved him. I reassured him that if he stayed, there would be a statue of him here one day, and that I would fashion it by hand if need be.
As someone who has recently committed adultery, I know how this move will devastate Jota’s 12,000 lovers at GP. I urge him not to penetrate the moist and financially rewarding vagina of Fulham.
Eloquently written Jason,Nice way of putting Fulham are a bunch of c—-
Was I missing something when I was led to believe that Jota would be allowed to leave the club during the current transfer window only if a Premiership club came in with a bid close to the £8 million asking price ? As I have said recently if a move to Fulham does take place hundreds of fans, like myself will see it as the ultimate betrayal by all involved.!!
Tbh if jota goes hes only going for the money to be fair with you
What is going on with our club. Everything looked rosey in the garden all summer and now, things are looked decidedly dodgy. I know we have ample defenders but letting Dean go does seem a bit of a backward step. It does have to be said that he has made a number of errors in the past in trying to pass the ball out of defence and leaving balls that clearly needed to be dealt with. Having said that he has been a good servant and will be missed, although £2m seems a fair price.
As for Jota, I agree with the majority…what on earth are we thinking if we do let him go to Fulham. I can understand he wants to meet family needs moneywise etc, but to go to our bitter rivals is too much. We all love Jota but if he goes to any club other than premier will be crazy. We cannot turn down £8m having said this whoever offers it, but I will be very unhappy if Fulham and will make my feelings known come December.
We have a really exciting team to watch but we need some more experience at times and we need to source another McCormack type player asap.
As for the ground and making smaller, no pub etc…we wait for 30 years and then allow us to be bullied again! Look at Reading and their ground, why can we not have the same!?
unles jota agrees to sign a contract extension de club as no choice in dis mater de club wil survive wid or widout jota let us al move on!
in anudder time zone admittedly but up al night sweatin dis out wedder jota wil go or stay but absolutely no coverage in any of de media. by de time news comes thro’ wil probably be asleep. jota as made is own bed let im lie on it!
