Manchester City 1 Brentford 2. Not a typo – it really did happen. Ivan Toney very much the man of the moment – just as he had been on Thursday when Gareth Southgate chose to overlook him for England and the World Cup. A decision seen as farcical at the time and one made all the more ridiculous as our man did his talking on the pitch against a team of Qatar bound players. Against the strongest club side in Europe.

Yet this game, this performance, was up there with the very best, ever, from Brentford. Of all time. It was simply sublime. It was a world away from all the frustrations of the last week as it is possible to get. Forget Forest in the 90th. Forget Gillingham. Forget England. This was all about beating Manchester City. Not a typo.
As ever at this juncture, we need to pick a star player. To find the top five Brentford performers. Always a tough task and one made even harder this time around considering not only where we were but also just how fine we played. And as ever at this juncture, you can find the answers here in the post match debrief and player ratings review. ENJOY !!!!!
Forget the goals ( hard to) On fitness alone Ivan Toney should be in the England squad he has missed a total of 8 games for the Bees, Callum Wilson missed most of the 2nd half of last season and 7 so far this.My case ends
Not only should Ivan be in the England squad but I also believe that on current form, Ben Mee and Rico Henry should also be in the squad replacing those donkeys Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
I have been at all our defining away games over the last 50 or so years starting with Cardiff City in the cup in 1972 and I can honestly say that yesterday was right up there. To see the so called superstars of Man City cheating, diving, feigning injury, trying to con the ref and appealing en mass for everything was fantastic. They reminded me of petulant children whose sweets had been taken away from them. The constant griping and moaning of Harland, Foden, Cancelo, Silva, Rodri and Gundogan was an embarrassment to football. It is testament to how well our boys played, taking the game to them, instead of sitting back. With a bit of luck we could have scored a couple more but hey, let’s not be greedy! Looking forward to the second half of the season when hopefully we have a fully fit squad to pick from. COYBs
Totally agree, especially with the diving and feigning injury. Also the fact that the City players kept ambushing the ref and arguing with him. At one point Haaland actually put his hands on him to try and reason with him, which I found quite unbelievable.
This is my theory why Ivan Toney is not playing for England as he play’s for a tin pot or as you say a bus stop in Hounslow. If he left Brentford and played for one the PL Prima Donna team he would be in the English Team without Hesitation.
I think Ivan has actually been treated quite badly. Why call him up to sit on the bench, not give him any game time, then not select him for the squad? Part of me actually hopes England make it to the final and then lose on penalties.
Great result.
Absolutely agree with comments regarding Mee and Rico.
I’m not a massive fan of Jensen and my mouth is broad enough to eat humble pie but I’ve got him down as Brentfords most improved player since we’ve been in the PL because of this seasins efforts. We got that result AWAY and without usual first teamers (Thomas’s choices) in Pontus, Hickey and Ajer.
Wissa is best as an impact player. Nothing wrong with that.
Norgaard still waiting to get his match fitness up for a starting place.
KLP biding his time for a starting place.
Good game from Onyeka.
Dasilva has to really up his game now as competition is fierce.
As does Ghoddos …. though he plays his part.
Canos …. can’t really see where he’ll get his chance other than injuries … though I think he’s talking himself into a move back to Spain.
Just a phenomenal team effort all round …. consistency and giving it to teams below and around us in the league and we’ll be seriously talking about European football!
Can’t be many periods in Brentfords long history (longer than Man Citys) whereby you couldn’t be more proud to be a Bees fan. A very special era we’re witnessing for Brentford fans in particular and the greater football community in general …. as in little club does good.
