And you thought the ‘red back’ was a controversial shirt…..

14 Nov

It’s fair to say that the last two season’s Brentford shirts have been the stuff of much discussion.

Primarily because of the lack of stripes on the reverse  – a league regulation seemingly able to be circumnavigated by Sheffield United last campaign. Puma’s 2012/13 effort of course featured the now infamous ‘tea bag effect’ all white back but there was hope that things would return to normal this time around as Adidas took over as our technical sponsor. To give them credit, they’ve taken a big step forward with the bold all red back although still no stripes. As an additional plus point, there are no perforations – women may not be able to buy one in their fit but, at least, they are saved the indignity of having their bra straps on show.

As such, the Adidas effort remains a major talking point and, consequently, not everyone is entirely happy. The anticipation for the return of the stripes on next year’s 125th anniversary shirt is already building.
