Is this the bargain of the season? On and off the pitch.

Tuesday night saw Brentford pick up another point, at Sheffield United, to move five clear of third placed Leyton Orient (still with a game in hand). And with Wolves also being held at Stevenage, the top of the table remains very much within our sights.

For me one of the, off-field, highlights of the season has been the rapid availability of post match highlights on our You Tube channel. Not only are they free, but (on the main site) they are of much better pictorial quality than those on Beesplayer.

That’s not to ‘rubbish’ the ‘player’ service – they have much more on there than just match highlights, as we all know and love. However, for those wanting a bite size hit of Bees action then YouTube is the place to go.

Set volume to 11, forget Stroud (and grab your cooling technology)

Brentford travel to Sheffield United today for a League One fixture that has the name Keith Stroud indelibly burned onto my brain. You’d have to have been living in North Korea not to know the facts of this one from last season but the pertinent details bear repeating.

Nine yellow cards, three reds (two for the Bees including a season spannering ban for Tony Craig), four penalties (two missed, ours scored by Marcello Trotta) and an equaliser at the death for Brentford. Shaun Wright-Phillips being the man to rescue a point from a game we could have gone on to win – the Bees were 1-0 up and dominating at HT –  before Stroud lost the plot.

It was a match famously described after the event as “The maddest game of football that ever existed”by the Beesplayer commentating legend Mark Burridge but, in a way, Stroud might have done us a favour, long term.

Did ANYONE see that coming ? Brentford, over to you

Brentford fans had optimistic hopes of a favour from Bristol City yesterday but I don’t think anybody expected this.  Their 3-1 victory at Leyton Orient made it three defeats in a row for The O’s.

All the sweeter was the fact that the latest hammer blow was delivered by Aden Flint. Bees fans may remember him from The Robin’s trip to Griffin Park last month. He was the chap who spannered us into the lead after less than ten minutes, with a comedy own goal when under minimal pressure.
