Title contenders handed massive boost (as Football League can’t count)

5 Apr

Brentford prepare for their game with Notts County today having been the beneficiaries of some stunning news courtesy of Wolves. Kenny Jackett, the man in Molineux hot seat, has been named Football League manger of the month for March.

You may have seen the column only yesterday on the ‘omens’ and then this story came along to blow it out of the water. Whilst Jackett is deserving of this honour, nudging out Warbs and Brentford in the process, jinx obsessed football fans up and down the land wax lyrical about the ‘inevitable’ defeat that follows this award.

Could play-off contenders Peterborough help provide a further demonstration of this today? Well, as one of my regular correspondents from ‘the dark (and gold) side, ‘Rustymini’, put it: “Kenny Jackett has won manager of the month for March. That’s it then, season over. We’ll struggle to get another point.”

Brentford’s own battle of Betamax v VHS

Are you following Brentford to Notts County for today’s League One encounter? If so, then don’t forget to shoot your own ‘fan’s video’.

Any supporter who has given even a cursory glance to Bees related matters on the internet will, surely, be well aware of the excellent video reports put together by the boys at Beesotted. Featuring fan interviews shot mid/post game and, seemingly, filmed in the only place on the Ealing Road where you can hear the tannoy (so its true, injury time IS now sponsored) they add a real flavour of what it is like to be at a Brentford game for those unfortunate enough not to have been able to make it.

This is Saunders territory. And a challenge for BBC Billy

I love a football ritual.

The lucky shirt (of which my current, unwashed since Colchester, Adidas ‘away’ is about to walk itself into the laundry basket); the pre-match pint; the same spot on the terrace; the magic pants. We all have them but, at Brentford, I have one above all.

It has evolved, courtesy of our friends at ITV. Whenever Manchester United used to win a free kick anywhere within 15 yards of the penalty box, the next phrase you’d hear Clive Tildesley utter, with palpable excitement in his voice at the prospect of what could follow, was: “This is Ronaldo territory”.
