Another game, another win – Bees edging closer as the tension builds

9 Apr

What a night as Brentford closed the gap on Wolves with another win, 1-0 over Crawley Town, whilst right behind us Rotherham United were unable to make any further progress as they lost to Sheffield United reserves. The news of the Blades 89th minute penalty winner was the icing on the cake of a near perfect night for the Bees.

The simple facts are that, with all the rain related postponements at the top end of the table now played out, Brentford are nine points clear of third place. Seven more points will guarantee promotion whilst my online bookmaker reckons that only two teams, us and Wolves, have a chance of being champions. They aren’t even offering a price on Rotherham.

Thanks for reading over the course of the campaign. For now I need to make space on this page for any follow up.  The ‘close season’ / World Cup columns continue in full, further on in this site.

Firstly the Connolly incident. The Mail claim the incident ‘overshadowed the match’. Really? Because this is the first time Ive heard about it. Hardly overshadowing. But then again it is the Mail although I did have to double check it was the Mail as the phrases ‘asylum seeker’ or ‘paedophile’ were not mentioned. For me the news which dominated last nights game was the huge swing to the Bees in the promotion race. I said before that I could not hear that fat lady in the distance, now I can hear her voice on the wind. Its a bit of a long shot but if all results went our way, we will be all but promoted mathematically on Saturday.

I just had to re-read what I just wrote ‘we will be promoted’. Not maybe or possibly, but now its will be. I shall love hearing the celebrations on Bees Player when it does happen. Unfortunately ive not been to a game since Shrewsbury due to a succession of horrible back injuries, where even walking was an issue, let alone the 200 mile round trip. So will be looking forward to hearing Mark & Louis describe that moment and hopefully ill be back, fit and able in the Championship next season.

To finish, in the Connolly incident in the Mail there is just 1 comment about it. It simply says ‘Handbags’.
