Forget platitudes. Now is the time for Premiership answers.

10 May

With Burnley now relegated from the Premiership and QPR sure to have followed them by the time most people are polishing off Sunday lunch, will it be a case of Brentford replacing them or being Championship stablemates next season? Well, the 1-1 draw between Norwich City and Ipswich Town on Saturday has made the play off winner no clearer although Middlesbrough remain the bookies’ favourites.

To read the rest of this article, season 2014/15 is now available to download onto Kindle (and other electronic reading device) in full. Containing additional material and even some (poor) editing, you can get it here for less than the cost of a Griffin Park matchday programme or Balti Pie.

Thanks for reading and all your comments over the course of the season. For now, I need to make more space on the site for any follow up. However, ‘close season’ will continue in full, further on.

We really can do this and are being written off far too easily.

Anyone notice the Boro bench celebrations at the end, in part understandable but a bit OTT for a tie that’s onlt at half time, nothing wrong with confidence but they do seem to think it is job done.

So far not one of the home teams have won a play off 1st leg, surely they won’t all go with the away sides? Watched the old farm derby yesterday, kinda felt that we could have troubled either of those 2 sides more than we did Boro?

Did anyone else spot Clem in the forecourt pre match? I’m guessing he’s a Boro fan as he wasn’t working. Explains our defeat doesn’t it! Hope he’s at the game on Friday.

Whatever happens I’m there to see it through – MW & the team deserve nothing less!

Was a big result but I don’t know where you get the over confidence thing from. Both Aitor and Leadbitter stated ” it is only half time” immediately after the game. I think all Sensible Boro fans would mirror those views too.

Not sure I accused anybody of over confidence. Would fully have expected Aitor and Leadbitter to come out with the ‘only half time’ line just as Warburton did for us.
The bookies have called Boro’ as 6/4 hot favourites, but that’s a different thing to over confidence (and a ludicrous price, in my opinion, for what remains a fiercely tough play off campaign). Likewise, I think 14-1 Brentford in a four horse race is somewhat generous and I’m certainly going to have a little flutter.
        Time will tell….
        Thanks for reading

The stupid comments coming out of the Brentford players, management continues and dome fans continue! What did they want the Boro players to do? sit and cry after winning? You play one game at a time, if you win you celebrate it there and then, then get your head down and go back to the training ground to plan for the next game. I’m pretty sure that if Brentford had won then their players and fans would have been dancing in the streets for the entire week! (celebrating your first win against Boro in 50 years) Roll on Friday

      Hi Maz. Thanks for reading.
Would be very interested in your specifics on the ‘stupid comments’ coming out of Brentford that you refer to.
Can’t see anybody disputing your victory – a hard earned and, rightfully, well celebrated one.
Likewise, a win will help us an awful lot more than yourselves (who only need to not lose) on Friday.
It’ll be very interesting to see how this plays out.
And if we do it, then I’m sure the Bees will celebrate like we’ve won the FA cup (as we were so infamously accused of doing last season).

My response was aimed at Rebelbee, not your article Nick

The Stupid comments relate to Brentford players, Manager and some fans who seem to have an issue when the opposition celebrate a win, it’s been the same repetitive comment in every interview from Brentford. I appreciate you need something to motivate yourself for the next game but trying to suggest that the Boro players are taking the next game lightly or even think the tie is all over based on their celebration last week is far fetched.
